ICCT Research Fellow Dr. Bibi van Ginkel presented the ICCT and PwC Report "The European Union’s Policies on Counter-Terrorism: Relevance, Coherence and Effectiveness" to the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) on 4 May 2017.
In her presentation, Dr. van Ginkel briefly summarises the contents of the report, particularly explaining some of the 23 overall recommendations set forth in the report. The report outlines strategies for EU CT efforts and calls on EU policymakers to build upon existing preventative mechanisms and to create new ones, where applicable. There must be a combination of short- and long-term strategies set in place in order for the EU to "stay ahead of the curve" in its CT efforts, Dr. van Ginkel argues.
