On Tuesday, 17th of October 2023, Bibi van Ginkel was interviewed by HLN, a Belgian newspaper, on the implications of the attacks in Brussels.
"You never see such things coming in advance, but that such an act of terror is aimed at Sweden is no surprise. Since there have been Koran burnings there and in Denmark and there has also been a tearing up of the holy book for Muslims in the Netherlands, the phase red has been in the intelligence services," Bibi said.
She added that it is still very early to confirm, but information shows that the perpetrator was inspired by IS and he may have been in contact with certain networks online.
She concluded that, unfortunately, such an act of terrorism inspires people in radicalised circles. The question is how governments can respond to this and do damage control.
