In the most recent issue of Global Affairs Mexico, a student-run magazine of international relations, ICCT Research Fellow Dr. Alex P. Schmid is interviewed about the relationship between terrorism and the media, the current state of the art in terrorism research, as well as the effectiveness of Western counter-terrorism policies.
Speaking, among others, about the relationship between research and policy-making in the field of counter-terrorism, Dr. Schmid criticises the lack of state action in attemtping to counter the narratives propagated by terrorists, focusing instead too heavily on merely fighting the violent acts they commit. Likewise, Dr. Schmid argues that counter-terrorism research could progress faster if governments shared information with researchers more willingly.
