From 22 to 30 September 2015, ICCT Director Mark Singleton traveled to New York to attend multiple international and bilateral meetings on topics related to countering violent extremism (CVE). The international gatherings attended included the Coordinating Committee and Ministerial Meeting of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), Post-White House CVE Summit events on expanding the CVE knowledge base and on youth against violent extremism, the Strong Cities Network Launch Event and a High Level Event of the European Union (EU) on integrating a gender dimension in preventing and countering violent extremism. The bilateral meetings Mark Singleton took part in were with a variety of actors, such as the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), EU, International Institute for Strategic Studies (ISS), Global Center on Cooperative Security, Search for Common Ground, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the UN and Jehangir Khan, Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force/UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (CTITF/CCT). In addition, he moderated an event of the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law and Hedayah on effective responses to the foreign (terrorist) fighter threat and reported on behalf of the European Union’s Counter-Terrorism Monitoring, Reporting and Support Mechanism (CT MORSE) project. ICCT is one of the four implementing partners of this project. Other partners are ISS, Global Center on Cooperative Security and the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime.
