On 17 October 2017, ICCT Associate Fellow Craig Whiteside appeared on ABC's programme, The World Today, in a ten-minute audio interview on the virtual existence of the Islamic State's (IS) caliphate. The interview questions revolved around how ISIS will continue to exist in the future, as more territory loses take place. Whiteside argues that ISIS will create a 'virtual caliphate [,] uniting in cyberspace until it can reclaim physical territory'. Listen to the interview.
