In an informative interview, ICCT Research Fellow Bart Schuurman spoke to the Investigative Project on Terrorism about his research on the Hofstadgroep. Dr. Schuurman's in-depth study on the Dutch Hofstadgroep asks: How and why do people become involved in European homegrown jihadism? Using interviews and extensive police files, Schuurman's research is an important contribution to existing primary source-based accounts of violent groups. Further, his findings deepen an understanding of concepts such as radicalisation, lone actors, and home-grown jihadism. Schuurman's book, Becoming a European Homegrown Jihadist : A multilevel analysis of involvement in the Dutch Hofstadgroup, 2002-2005, is available here.
