ICCT Associate Fellows Charlie Winters and Haroro J. Ingram in The Atlantic

September 21, 2017

On the 19 September 2017 Associate Fellows Charlie Winter and Dr. Haroro J. Ingram published an article in The Atlantic analyzing how ISIS was able to turn the 'failed' bomb at the Parsons Green London Underground Station on September 15 2017, into a strategic success. The article, titled "Why ISIS Is So Good at Branding Its Failures as Successes" argued that although the bomb itself resulted in a technical failure, the desired effect was still achieved by "garnering media notoriety for the caliphate". The article cautioned against the responses of  governments and media outlets, by stating that the 'full potency of ISIS's propaganda of the deed strategy relies on the misguided responses of its adversaries'.
