Julian Lanchès is a Junior Research Fellow for the Current and Emerging Threats Programme at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism. He specialises in the far right and Islamism, with his work focusing on different manifestations of extremism and terrorism online, the role of disinformation, propaganda, and identity in violent radicalisation, terrorist actors' strategies and modus operandi, as well as the mainstreaming of extremism.
At ICCT, Julian has contributed to projects on jihadist online propaganda, the nexus between terrorism and migration, borderline content on social media, the role of gender in radicalisation, and doxxing in extremist contexts. Before joining ICCT, he conducted research on pro-Kremlin disinformation strategies and online hate campaigns at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD). Additionally, he examined prison radicalisation at the Global Network on Extremism & Technology (GNET). As a member of the former Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN), he worked on shaping P/CVE policies tailored to young people.
Julian holds an MA in Terrorism, Security and Society from King’s College London, an MSc in Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Tübingen.
