On April 4, the Financial Times published an article discussing a series of suspected attacks across Europe and the uncertainty surrounding Ashab al-Yamin (HAYI), a group claiming responsibility for those attacks. The article features comments from Julian Lanchès, ICCT Research Fellow.
Lanchès noted that the group’s sudden emergence and lack of any prior footprint raise significant doubts about its authenticity, suggesting it is unlikely to be a genuine, structured terrorist organisation. He also indicated that it may instead be linked to a foreign state, with Iran considered the most plausible actor, and highlighted the use of hybrid warfare tactics involving loosely recruited individuals.
