ICCT Director Renske ven der Veer represented ICCT at the Munich Secuirty Conference (MSC) from 14-16 February. She had a Sahel-heavy programme, discussing issues like the context-sensitivity of working in the Sahel, the need to increase understanding of potential long-term negative effects of interventions, and the opportunities working with youth in the region offer – the median age of the Sahelian population is 17. She also had constructive bilaterals, e.g. with Google’s CEO of Trust and Security Kristie Canegallo on our cooperation in the GIFCT, and the Dutch minister of Defence on the use of military evidence to prosecute terrorism related offences.
