On 2 March 2021, ICCT's Christophe Paulussen wrote an article in Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant on the implications of revoking the citizenship of individuals who travelled to Syria. The article was a response to the UK court case of Shamima Begum. Paulussen argued that revoking citizenship can reinforce feelings of discrimination, which can again lead to radicalisation.
