The Hague, 17 June 2025 – The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) releases its Annual Report 2024 today. It provides an overview of ICCT’s key activities and achievements.
In 2024, ICCT published no less than 103 articles, reports and books on its website and in its academic journal, Perspectives on Terrorism, providing in-depth insights into key global trends. Our open-access databases continued to serve as valuable resources, while our new podcast series explored the emerging threat of terrorist actors’ use of artificial intelligence.
Furthermore, ICCT organized or contributed to over 70 policy-oriented activities, trained more than 500 individuals, and its public events reached over 1,600 persons.
“ICCT remains one of the main sources of expertise in Europe on issues related to terrorism and violent extremism”, said ICCT Director Dr. Thomas Renard. “The amount of work and the quality of the work produced by ICCT staff is truly impressive. I am very proud.”
Last year, ICCT worked on 29 different projects. These projects covered a wide range of thematic issues, such as: far-right extremism, jihadi terrorism, anti-institutional extremism, foreign influence, threats against public figures, or artificial intelligence. Some projects were more research-oriented, whereas others focused more on delivering concrete policy advice, building capacities, developing tailored tools, or evaluating programmes and policies.
Through all these projects, ICCT engaged with a wide network, including 170 authors, numerous consultants and experts, more than 30 institutional partners, and 25 distinct donors. Geographically, ICCT had a global reach, notably implementing projects in Europe, North America, Western Balkans, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
“ICCT caters for an entire ecosystem. It engages with all stakeholders, globally, and build bridges between different communities of researchers, policy-makers and practitioners. This is what makes ICCT unique”, said Thomas Renard.
Founded in 2010, the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism is an independent think-and-do tank dedicated to shaping effective and evidence-based policies against terrorism and violent extremism, grounded in human rights and the rule of law. In 2025, ICCT celebrates its 15th anniversary.
