The Hague, 23 January 2026: The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) has been awarded the title of “Best Think Tank on Counter-Terrorism and Hybrid Threats” as part of the European Enterprise Awards 2025, unveiled by EU Business News Magazine.
Now in its eighth consecutive year, the European Enterprise Awards recognise excellence, innovation, and dedication across a diverse range of organisations operating in Europe. Commenting on this year’s awards, Awards Coordinator Kaven Cooper stated: “I have been in touch with a great mixture of companies and individuals who go above and beyond for their clients and customers. The award-winning services, products, and solutions in this fine assortment of accolade-worthy enterprises are truly inspirational. Congratulations again, it is well-deserved.”
The award recognises ICCT’s sustained impact and contribution to global policy debates on terrorism, violent extremism, and hybrid threats. In the past year alone, ICCT published nearly 100 articles, its experts were cited more than 150 times in international media, and its research featured in over 200 academic publications. ICCT’s work also informed key policy documents from institutions including the Council of the European Union, Eurojust, the UN Special Rapporteur on counter-terrorism, and the Council of Europe, among others.
In 2025, ICCT implemented more than 20 policy-relevant projects addressing some of the most pressing security challenges of our time. These included major research on online borderline content and policy responses, as well as groundbreaking analysis exposing Russian hybrid operations in Europe, notably through the use of disposable agents.
Reacting to the award, ICCT Director Dr Thomas Renard said: “This award recognises the relevance and impact of ICCT’s work, but above all the exceptional quality and dedication of ICCT’s staff. Receiving this prize as we celebrate ICCT’s 15th anniversary is a powerful way to highlight the collective impact we have achieved over the years.”
Established in 2010 following a decision of the Dutch Parliament, ICCT is an independent foundation based in The Hague, the Netherlands. Its mission is to inform and support policies aimed at preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism. Since its creation, ICCT has published more than 700 articles, implemented hundreds of projects, and engaged tens of thousands of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners worldwide.
Dr Renard added: “This award confirms that ICCT has established itself as a leading think tank on terrorism, violent extremism, and hybrid threats, in Europe and beyond. It is also an encouraging signal as we look ahead and begin shaping the next 15 years of ICCT.”
