Laura Winkelmuller Real joined ICCT in August 2024 as an intern in the Current and Emerging Threats Programme. She holds a BA in Political Science with a specialization in International Law and is currently completing her MSc in Crisis and Security Management, focusing on the Governance of Radicalism, Extremism, and Terrorism, from Leiden University.

Before joining ICCT, Laura worked as a board member for Stitching Reach and Teach assisting the integration of refugees and asylum seekers in the Netherlands. She currently works as a policy lead, developing security policies and conducting research for a European political party.

During her studies, Laura examined the impact of targeted killings and leadership decapitation on the structures and operations of terrorist organizations. Additionally, she studies the dynamics of lone-actor terrorism and the role of identity in radicalization and reintegration. She is particularly interested in the effectiveness of reintegration programs for former radicals.
