On 11 April 2017, ICCT Research Fellow Bibi van Ginkel commented in an article by the Dutch news broadcaster NOS. The article examines Central Asia as a region where radicalisation of youth is becoming increasingly prevalent due to many states having large populations of young people with little economic opportunities. According to van Ginkel, so-called Islamic State is highly effective at "narrowcasting" disillusioned youths by appealing to their personal grievances.
