On Wednesday, 21st of February 2024, Tanya Mehra was interviewed by the Dutch radio NPO1 about the upcoming trial of two sisters, Amal and Amina, who joined the Islamic State and had been allowed to return to the Netherlands.
"I think Amina is an exceptional case. What strikes us is that she is quite young, she went to IS territory as a minor. In the group we studied of 28 women involved in jihadism, there are only 2 who were also minors," Mehra said on one of the two sisters.
She continued, "It seems as if Amina has played a bigger and more active role within ISIS. With most other women, we see that they have more of a logistical role. They take care of the household and the food. But with Amina, we see that she is a nurse, but she may also have given weapons training and is a member of a female brigade.
