In the Media: Thomas Renard on Alleged Iranian Threats Against Trump

Recently, ICCT director Thomas Renard was quoted in De Morgen on reports of an Iranian assassination plot against President Trump, calling the threat "very real" and pointing to Iran's long track record of mobilising proxy networks to pursue its political goals. He drew a distinction between the "first layer" of Iran-linked attacks seen in Belgium - largely aimed at generating propaganda imagery rather than casualties - and the regime's demonstrated capacity for far more serious operations, including past plots involving criminal proxies and foreign intelligence services.
