On 14 May, Joana Cook was invited to participate in an interview with BBC World Service on whether Russian forces appear to have fully withdrawn from positions around Ukraine's second city, Kharkiv. Joana highlighted the impacts of the war in Ukraine on Ukrainian women. She discussed how women tend to be disproportionally impacted through aspects of conflict such as human trafficking and sexual violence. Joana also discussed the women who have remained in Ukraine to form part of the Ukrainian army, support medical aid, provide non-combat support, and assist in logistical work.
