On 10 March, ICCT Research Fellow Dr. Bibi van Ginkel was interviewed by the Dutch news agency BNR on the 22.000 leaked identities of recruits of the so-called "Islamic State" (IS). She noted that this leak will make it much easier to convict Dutch jihadists, as it provides justice with "membership cards" that show that certain persons are member of a terrorist organisation. According to Van Ginkel, so far jihadists in the Netherlands have mainly been prosecuted for the intention to join IS and not for what they have subsequently done there. This material makes this possible and is therefore a "smoking gun". Read the article (Dutch).
