On September 9, 2021, the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) hosted an online Live Briefing for the re-release of the book, A Woman's Place: U.S. Counterterrorism Since 9/11, for the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. View the recording of the Live Briefing below:

A Woman's Place, by Joana Cook, examines a significant void in analyses of developments in counter-terrorism since 9/11: While actors in counter-terrorism increasingly consider, engage and impact women as agents, partners, and targets of their work — flawed assumptions and stereotypes remain prevalent, and it remains undocumented and unclear how and why counterterrorism efforts evolved as they did in relation to women.

A Woman's Place explores this topic through extensive primary source interviews and documents, and is an essential resource for tracing the evolution of women in US counter-terrorism efforts through the administrations of Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump. As part of the release of this book's second edition, ICCT held a live briefing on the book to reflect on the role of women in counter-terrorism since 9/11.
