Side Event to the 2016 Review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy

On 30 June 2016, ICCT, together with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Global Center on Cooperative Security (GCCS), will host the event 'National Action Planning on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism: Mechanisms and Lessons Learned' as a side event to the 2016 Review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Sponsored by the Permanent Missions of The Netherlands, Kenya and Nigeria, this event hosts a panel during which experts will share their experiences in designing and implementing national strategies to prevent and counter violent extremism. Lessons learned on do’s and don’ts in terms of process and design of the action plans, provided by donors, facilitators of the process, civil society representatives and representatives of the countries in which these national action plans are being implemented, will offer a unique insight for policy makers, diplomats, and experts concerned with these topics, also in countries that are thinking about or are already in the process of developing such an action plan. The focus countries during the panel debate will include Kenya, Nigeria, and Serbia, along with other States. Emphasis will also be placed on actions at the regional level.
