On Thursday, 14th March 2024, 9:30-16:30, the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) hosted an expert seminar on artificial intelligence in the context of preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism to discuss the challenges, risks and opportunities.
Thirteen experts spoke about their research and work on AI in preventing and countering terrorism, the challenges, law enforcement's use of artificial intelligence, and freedom of expression. Thomas Renard, ICCT's Director, gave opening remarks. The event also featured Anne Craanen, ICCT Research Fellow for the Current and Emerging Threats Programme, as keynote speaker and Joana Cook, ICCT Editor-in-Chief, as moderator of one panel.
