The growing accessibility of technologies such as the internet, social media, gaming platforms, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence has enabled terrorists and violent extremists to expand their reach, particularly among younger users online.
Across the world, terrorist and violent extremist activities have continuously triggered an increase in security laws and measures. But are these measures lawful, legitimate, and proportionate to their impact on the rule of law and human rights?
Join us for the 15th edition of the Advanced summer programme on Terrorism, counter-terrorism and the rule of law. Co-organised with the Asser Institute, this year's edition will focus on counter-terrorism in the digital age. You will have the unique opportunity to network and engage directly with fellow professionals in the field.
Confirmed components of the programme include:
- Opening keynote: Definitional debates and current challenges by Prof. Ben Saul - UN Special Rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights;
- Pathways to extremism and terrorism;
- EU regulation of online spaces;
- Online radicalisation;
- Conflict zones or terrorism ‘hot spots’: the evolution of (violent) extremist actors and geographies;
