In his TRT World op-ed, C.J Werleman uses ICCT Fellow J.M Berger's analysis of in/out group binaries to make sense of violent anti-Muslim extremism. In the same way ISIS propaganda constructs an 'us vs them' binary, recent anti-Muslim attacks can be understood as acts of in-group violence against an out-group Other. "Anti-Muslim extremists are radicalizing in the exact same manner as homegrown “jihadists”.
