On 19 November 2015, a day after a female terrorist that was linked to the Paris attacks allegedly bombed herself in Saint-Denis as police closed in, ICCT Research Fellow Seran de Leede elaborated on the phenomenon of female suicide bombers in a news article in the Dutch national newspaper Algemeen Dagblad. May this year, Seran de Leede already co-wrote a background note on the reasons for a number of young Western women travelling abroad to join the so-called “Islamic State” (IS).
