Bart Schuurman in The Investigative Project on Terrorism

In an informative interview, ICCT Research Fellow Bart Schuurman spoke to the Investigative Project on Terrorism about his research on the Hofstadgroep. Dr. Schuurman’s in-depth study on the Dutch Hofstadgroep asks: How and why do people become involved in European homegrown jihadism?

Using interviews and extensive police files, Schuurman’s research is an important contribution to existing primary source-based accounts of violent groups. Further, his findings deepen an understanding of concepts such as radicalisation, lone actors, and home-grown jihadism.

Schuurman’s book, Becoming a European Homegrown Jihadist : A multilevel analysis of involvement in the Dutch Hofstadgroup, 2002-2005, is available here.
