Matthew Odu Una is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with over two decades of legal practice. He is currently a counter-terrorism and Atrocity crimes prosecutor at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation of Nigeria’s department of Public Prosecutions. He is an alumnus of the International Institute of Justice and the Rule of Law, Malta and a United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) trained counter-terrorism prosecutor. Matthew has participated in several international and national experts working groups including as member of the Commonwealth Secretariate Expert Working Group on the ‘’Guidelines on the Treatment of Electronic Evidence in Criminal Proceedings’’ recently endorsed by the Commonwealth Law Ministers, the United Nations Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict Expert Group Meeting on ‘’Towards Accountability for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Terrorism Contexts’’ and the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Policy Paper Consultation on the 2014 Policy on Sexual and Gender based Crimes and the 2021 Policy on Children. He is Focal Point to several international governmental and non- governmental organisations including the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC, UNODC and the Wayamo Foundation. Over the past nine years, he has participated actively in the prosecution of hundreds of terrorism cases in the context of the Nigeria situation dealing with the Boko Haram, ISWAP and other affiliate groups. His interest lies broadly across public international law, international criminal law, with particular focus on conflict related sexual violence (CRSV). He holds a Master of Laws degree from the Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria.
