Bartjan Wegter

Bartjan Wegter has been appointed the new EU counter-terrorism coordinator for the next 5 years. He will start on March 1, 2024. Bartjan Wegter succeeds Ilkka Salmi, who has held this position since October 2021.

Bartjan Wegter is an experienced Dutch diplomat who, until his appointment as EU Coordinator, served as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to NATO. After studying at Leiden University and the College of Europe, he held various positions in the field of multilateral relations and security during his 25-year diplomatic career
