In the Media: Kacper Rekawek on Russia's Hybrid War and Kinetic Attacks

On October 1st, Gazeta Wyborcza, a Polish newspaper, interviewed Senior Research Fellow and Programme Lead, Kacper Rekawek, about ICCT's new collaborative Report with Globsec on Russia's ongoing hybrid war, situating more recent developments in the context of its war of aggression against Ukraine and the more recent forms of kinetic attack perpetrated by Russia.

Rekawek discussed how Russian authorities were forced to change their offensive strategy once they came to realise the invasion of Ukraine would not be as easy as they had assumed. This has led them to use older strategies once employed by the KGB. "This old tactic now works even better and allows for larger-scale operations, fueled by social media activity and the use of instant messaging services, which weren't available before," stated Rekawek. 

"I would say that the greatest challenge for Europe today is accepting and acknowledging the fact that it is at war with Russia."
