On Sunday, October 5, The Deep State, an Irish security podcast, interviewed Senior Research Fellow and Programme Lead, Kacper Rekawek, about ICCT's new collaborative Report with Globsec on Russia's Crime Terror Nexus.
Rekawek detailed the emergence of Russia's hybrid attacks, which began in 2022 but intensified in 2023.
"There is a pincer movement. There is the 'Spook-Gangster Nexus' and there's the 'Crime-Terror Nexus' that are being thrown at us." Rekawek stated. He warns that this 'Crime–Terror Nexus' enables the Kremlin to destabilise democracies while maintaining plausible deniability, whereas the 'Spook-Gangster Nexus' can be understood in terms of Russia's use of criminal organisations and structures.
