On 22 November 2014, ICCT Director Mark Singleton addressed the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s (NATO PA) Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security. He highlighted the challenges societies face with regards to terrorism in general, and specifically concerning the growing problem of foreign terrorist fighters in Syria and Iraq. The developments in counter-terrorism are of great interest to the members of the NATO PA Committee on the Civil Dimensions of Security. During the Session, the Committee’s rapporteur Joëlle Garriaud-Maylam, a member of the French parliament, will present a report on issues that pertain to combatting terrorism and developing strategies to protect democratic institutions. Due to the vast expertise of Mr. Singleton and ICCT in this area, Singleton was asked to contribute to this topic by addressing legislators of the Committee on Civil Dimension of Security. The Session took place during the Assembly’s Autumn Session on Saturday 22 November in The Hague.
