On Wednesday 18th of October 2023, Thomas Renard was interviewed by Moustique, a Belgian weekly magazine, on the existing clues in Belgium and abroad leading to the attack.
He commented the risk remains, and "today we have good reason to think that we are back to experiencing this threat for some time." Thomas continued to analyse the strength of Jihadist ideology and the consequences in Belgium. "The jihadist threat remains the main threat here," he said.
However, noted Thomas, most individuals who commit acts in Europe and the West are now in a state of self-affiliation. "It is no longer because a terrorist claims his link with an organisation that he is a structural member and receives instructions. Daesh or Al-Qaeda are less present in Belgium. But their ideology and their project deadly remains very present", he explained.
