ICCT Associate Fellow Colin Clarke in The Independent

August 03, 2017

On 1 August 2017, ICCT Associate Fellow Colin Clarke was cited in The Independent, in an article discussing what implications the fall of so-called Islamic State (IS) is having for al-Qaeda. Discussing Hamza Bin Laden's recent accusation of Abdul-Aziz bin Rahman Al Saud of being a British agent, Clarke argues that Bin Laden's comments are al-Qaeda's way of saying that Saudi Arabia has "been a British puppet for decades, and building on the narrative that they are an apostate regime". Now that IS is failing, "al-Qaeda is ascendant and looking to reclaim that mantle of leader of the global jihad", Clarke says.
