On 1 June, 2022, 15:00 - 16:00, the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism and the Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX) hosted a Live Webinar as part of The Global Perspectives on the Far Right webinar series, inspired by the new Manchester University Press book series, ‘Global Studies of the Far Right,’ co-edited and co-founded by Eviane Leidig, ICCT Associate Fellow for Current and Emerging Threats. This webinar goes over the emergence and collapse of the far-right in colonial Indonesia (Dutch East Indies).
Lecturer Nathaniël Kunkeler explains how the movement was defined by its opposition to the Dutch colonial government's ‘Ethical Policy’ which would allow for greater political independance and tolerance to native Indonesians. These far-right groups consisted of white settlers and parts of the Indo-European population which beneffited from the Imperial system.
