Author Guidelines

The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism publishes Analyses, Policy Briefs, and Reports by leading scholars and practitioners working in counter-terrorism, through ICCT Publications. To ensure maximum impact and a timely publication process, all authors are requested to follow the Style Guidelines and checklists as described on this page.

Focus and Scope

Manuscripts published through ICCT Publications should embody and help further the Centre’s core aim of contributing to effective counter-terrorism policy and practice through a focus on prevention and the rule of law. While policy-relevance is a key priority at ICCT, the Centre is dedicated to impartiality and does not support or advocate any one particular approach to dealing with terrorism and extremism. Objectivity, accuracy, policy relevance, and empirically-supported research are guiding principles for all ICCT Publications output, and contributors are expected to adhere to these accordingly.

ICCT Publications' Reports, Policy Briefs and Analyses are published on a rolling basis. ICCT Publications seeks to provide a unique platform for scholars and professionals working towards understanding, preventing, and responding to terrorism and violent extremism.

ICCT Publications differ from one another in several respects. Authors are asked to consider these carefully when deciding how to structure and format their manuscripts.

We welcome unique insights from a broad range of authors, including early-career scholars. In addition to academics in the fields of terrorism studies, security, and political science—and counter-terrorism and P/CVE practitioners—we encourage and invite submissions from experts outside these fields who hold unique insights. This may include, among others, anthropologists, psychologists, archaeologists, philosophers, journalists, environmental scientists, theologians, arms experts, geographers, and more. We are especially interested in experts who bring non-Western or non-Eurocentric perspectives and experiences.

Style Guidelines

Authors submitting manuscripts for publication must adhere to the ICCT Style Guidelines.

The Guidelines provide additional information about style, language, formats and references. Please note that authors run the risk of their manuscript being sent back or rejected if one or more of these criteria are not met.

Note: authors are not required to pay an article processing charge (APC).

Publication Ethics

ICCT Publications asks all authors to observe high standards with respect to publication ethics, taking into account the following points in particular.
 

• The editors will not consider manuscripts under simultaneous submission elsewhere or material that has already been published.
• All material must be original. In addition to observing the usual cautions against plagiarism, authors must avoid repeating material from their own previous work, a practice sometimes called “self-plagiarism.”
• Any potential conflict of interest must be made clear to the editors at the point of submission. This includes any financial interests or connections related to the work, potential bias in the manuscript’s findings that reflect an author’s commercial, academic, or governmental affiliations. If the manuscript is published, relevant conflict of interest information will be included in a statement in the paper.

ICCT Publications are published in open access format and distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives License , which permits non-commercial re-use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited, and is not altered, transformed, or built upon in any way.
